In 1996 the San Diego Zoo began an international conservation partnership with China Wildlife Conservation Association. For 25 years the zoo had Pandas on display. In 2019 the remaining pandas were sent back to China as the agreement had come to an end. Recently San Diegans excitedly welcomed 2 new pandas from China to the zoo. The new arrangement will allow pandas to stay in San Diego for 10 years.
