Harmetz Sculptures

ABOUT

Richard Harmetz, born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, is a graduate of the UCLA School of Dentistry and currently practices in San Diego. In addition to his dental career, he is a self-taught artist. How does one transition from dentistry to creating life-sized bronze sculptures? The answer lies in stages.

As a cosmetic dentist, Richard honed his skills in fabricating dental crowns. This expertise naturally extended to creating jewelry, as both processes involved working with gold. Initially, Dr. Harmetz crafted jewelry primarily for his wife, though he also made pieces as gifts.

A PASSION FOR ART

It was around this time that Richard decided to experiment with bronze. This led to the creation of “Watching Friends,” which was inspired by his 12-year-old son and the family’s pets—a cat and a dog.

Art has always been his passion, even within his professional life. He has been creating jewelry and sculptures for over 35 years. For many years his office was his studio. Today, he works in his studio in Del Mar, CA. His work is prominently displayed in hospitals, hotels, and homes throughout the United States. Richard lives with his wife, Patricia, in San Diego.
